Five MAAC Men’s Track & Field and Cross Country Student-Athletes Named to Google Cloud Academic All-District First Team
EDISON, NJ – Five Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men’s Track & Field and Cross Country student-athletes were named to the 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Women’s Track & Field/Cross Country Team, as named by CoSIDA.
Marist College’s Andrew Burns, Michael Kennedy, and Christopher Rivas, along with Manhattan College’s Amir Khaghani and Monmouth University’s Kyle Mueller were named to the District I First Team.
The Google Cloud Academic All-District Team recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances in the athletic realm and in the classroom.
Burns maintained a 3.81 GPA through his senior year while studying information technologies and systems. During the 2019 outdoor track & field season, Burns held the second-fastest time in the league for the men’s 800M. The time of 1:51.64 earned him the MAAC Male Outdoor Track Performer of the Week award on April 23, Marist’s first since 2013. Additionally, Burns ran in the winning 4x800 relay team at this year’s MAAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which finished in 7:47.45.
Kennedy also earned a 3.81 GPA during his senior year, pursuing a degree in business administration. The senior was a four-time IC4A qualifier during his time with the Red Foxes, recording his best finish at the championships in 2018 when he placed 10
th in the 10,000M. The senior was named to the 2018 Cross Country All-MAAC Team.
Marist’s Rivas was the only non-senior from the MAAC to make the team, recording a GPA of 3.87 while studying business administration. The junior has qualified for the IC4A Cross Country Championships the past two years, while also qualifying for the NCAA Division I Northeast Region Cross Country Championships in 2018. Rivas finished 15
th in the 10,000M (32:25.93) at this year’s MAAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Manhattan’s Khaghani finished the year with a GPA of 3.99, studying business analytics. The senior was the top male finisher for the Jaspers at the 2018 MAAC Cross Country Championships, placing 12
th with a time of 25:44.6. The finish earned Khaghani a spot on the All-MAAC Team.
Monmouth’s Mueller finished his senior year with a 3.89 GPA while studying computer science. Mueller finished third in the 10,000M at this year’s IC4A championship. The senior also finished third in the men’s 5000M at this year’s MAAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Mueller was named to the MAAC Cross Country All-MAAC Team after finishing in fourth.
First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team (if applicable) Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in June.
