Beach and Motschmann Named Pepsi Zero MAAC Student-Athletes of the Week

Megan Beach

A 2019 Fairfield University graduate, Megan Beach was recently named to the All-ECAC Second Team for the second consecutive season and earned an invitation to the prestigious IWLCA Senior All-Star Game. Beach was previously recognized this spring as the 2019 MAAC Defender of the Year and earned her second straight All-MAAC First Team selection. She was also a MAAC All-Championship Team pick for the second consecutive campaign after guiding the Stags to back-to-back MAAC Championships.
 
 
Johannes Motschmann
Men’s Outdoor Track & Field

Johannes Motschmann will be continuing a stellar outdoor track & field season at the NCAA Championships in Austin, TX after qualifying for the season’s culminating event in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a seventh place finish at the NCAA East Preliminaries in Jacksonville, FL at Hodges Stadium.
 
Motschmann ran a personal best time of 8:41.04 and earned an automatic qualifying slot with a second place finish in his heat and seventh place overall. He beat his previous career-best time which was 8:44.34 at the 2019 Bryan Clay Invitational.
 
At the 2019 MAAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Motschmann won the 5,000-meter and 3,000m steeplechase to earn Co-Most Outstanding Track Performer of the Championship.
 
His honor ensured The Iona men's cross country and track & field programs have completed a MVP sweep in the its three championship events this season. Liam Dee was named the MAAC Most Outstanding Performer at the 2018 Cross Country Championships; Jordan Brannan was voted the Most Outstanding Track Performer at the 2019 Indoor Track & Field Championships and Motchmann completes the trifecta at the Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
 
Joining Motschmann in Austin will be Jessica Scheriff who qualified for the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase. For both, it is their first NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
