2019 MAAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships Set to Begin Saturday
WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ - The MAAC Men's & Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships will begin on Saturday, May 4 at Monmouth University in West Long Branch, New Jersey. Monmouth is hosting for the first time since 2015.
The championships begin at 12 p.m. on Saturday, starting with women’s hammer throw. Sunday’s events begin at 10 a.m. with women’s high jump and men’s shot put. The final events of the championships will be broadcast on ESPN+ beginning Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
For the men, Monmouth University looks to capture is sixth straight title. The Hawks are led by head coach Joe Compagni, who has won both the MAAC Men’s and Women’s Coach of the Year honors every year at the outdoor championships since Monmouth joined the league in 2014. Redshirt-senior Corey Murphy returns to this year’s championships after being a Second Team All-American after his impressive performance at this year’s NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships. Murphy finished 12
th in the shot put. The Monmouth men are undefeated in home meets since 1996. Senior Darius Howe looks to defend his title in the men’s triple jump. Howe won last year’s event with a mark of 15.17 meters.
On the women’s side, graduate student Allie Wilson looks to lead the Hawks to another championship. Wilson earned First Team All-American honors after finishing fourth in the 800M at this year’s NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships. Wilson is the first Hawk on the women’s side in program history to earn this distinction. The Monmouth women have not lost a meet at home since 2001.

Around the MAAC:
- Canisius College’s seniors Siobhan Quinn and Carlin Sullivan each qualified for the ECAC Championships in the 10,000M. The two Golden Griffins recorded times of 35:50.93 and 36:35.46, respectively.
- Iona College junior Jelani Pierre won gold at the 2019 Metropolitan Championships in the men’s long jump, while setting a new program record of 7.42 meters in the process.
- Manhattan College’s Niasia Boone holds the MAAC’s top times in the 100M (12.01) and 200M (24.56), which were set at the Metropolitan Championships. Boone’s performance earned her MAAC Track Performer of the Week on April 16.
- Marist College senior captain Andrew Burns holds the MAAC’s fastest 800M time of the season, clocking a 1:51.64 at the Bryan Clay Invitational on April 17.
- Monmouth’s Allie Wilson holds the MAAC’s top times in the 800M (2:03.81) and 1500M (4:15.16). The times are Monmouth program records.
- Niagara University’s Maggie Gerard set a new program record in the shot put this season, throwing 12.99 meters at the Dave Labor Alumni Invitational in Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania.
- Quinnipiac University’s Marlo Wehrer set a new program record in the 400M hurdles at the 125th Penn Relays. The senior crossed the line in 1:00.34 to finish in seventh.
- Nate Bowie and Michael Horn from Rider University currently hold top marks in the MAAC for the 110M hurdles and triple jump, respectively. Bowie recorded a 14.84 at the 2019 Lions Invitational on April 26. Horn set his mark, which is an IC4A qualifying leap, at the Duke Invitational on April 19.
- Saint Peter’s University freshman Rayshawn Johnson is top 10 in the MAAC for both the 110M hurdles and 400M hurdles. Johnson has recorded times of 15.46 and 57.03, respectively.
- Siena College’s Sarah Forman was voted the 2018-19 Siena Female Athlete of the Year. Forman currently holds program records in three events for the Saints; the 800M (2:13.05), 1500M (4:26.95), and 5000M (16:58.60).
