Five from MAAC Water Polo Named Honorable Mention All-American

BRIDGEPORT, PA – Five MAAC Water Polo student-athletes were named Honorable Mention All-American by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC). Grace Doerfler and Katherine Tijerina of Marist College, Diana Fernandez from Siena College, and Sofia Diaz Alvarez and Erica Hardy of Wagner College were recognized.
 
Doerfler and Tijerina were both All-MAAC First Team selections in 2019. Doerfler tallied 49 goals and five assists for 54 points and also drew 28 exclusions. Tijerina finished her senior season with 37 goals and 29 assists for a total of 66 points.
 
Fernandez is the first Siena player to earn recognition from the ACWPC. The junior led the Saints in goals (64), points (93), and shooting percentage (.436). Fernandez was an All-MAAC Second Team selection in 2019.
 
Wagner’s Hardy and Diaz Alvarez were named the MAAC Offensive Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year, respectively. Hardy led the MAAC in points (165) in her senior season and finished second in assists (78) and sixth in goals (87). Diaz Alvarez finished second in the MAAC in goals (109) and became the first Seahawk to score 100 goals in her freshman season.
