2019 MAAC Softball Championship Field Set
EDISON, NJ – The 2019 MAAC Softball Championship field and seedings have been confirmed. Marist College (33-20, 16-4 MAAC), Monmouth University (33-16, 16-4), Siena College (21-23, 13-7), Iona College (18-25, 12-8), Niagara University (15-30, 11-9), and Fairfield University (26-22, 10-10) will all compete for a MAAC title this week in Poughkeepsie, New York.
Marist will serve as the host institution for the duration of the week after garnering the top seed for the championship. The Red Foxes split the regular season title after posting a 16-4 record along with Monmouth, but owned the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Hawks. Marist posted a seven-win improvement in conference games after finishing last season at 9-11. Monmouth, who served as the championship host last season, will enter the championship as the No. 2 seed and will look for their second-straight title
The No. 3 seed for the championship is Siena. The Saints captured both games against Saint Peter’s University on the final day of action to move up to the third spot. Siena will travel to Poughkeepsie on a three-game winning streak, making the MAAC Softball Championship for the third-straight year. The No. 4 seed in the championship is Iona. This will also be the third-straight appearance for the Gaels in the MAAC Softball Championship. Iona is looking for its first title since 2014.
The No. 5 seed is Niagara, finishing conference play with a 11-9 record. The Purple Eagles will play for a MAAC title for the first time since 2013 after finishing 8-2 over their last 10 conference games. The final seed in the 2019 MAAC Softball Championship is No. 6 Fairfield, who finished conference play at an even .500. The Stags have made the championship game in six of the last eight years, winning the championship in 2015 and 2017.
