2019 NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship Opening Round

UMBC (7-8) defeated Marist (10-7) 14-8 in the Opening Round of the 2019 NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship. The Retrievers scored seven-straight goals spanning 24:19 to turn a 6-4 deficit into a 11-6 lead.
UMBC Notes
• The Retrievers advance to face No. 1 Penn State on Sunday.
• UMBC scored nine times in the second half after trailing 6-5 at halftime.
• UMBC held Marist scoreless for 30 minutes; spanning the second, third, and fourth quarters.
• Trevor Patschorke and Steven Zichelli led UMBC with four points—3 goals & 1 assist.
• All three of Zichelli goals came during the Retrievers’ scoring run.
• Ryan Frawley and Brett McIntyre each found the back of the net twice.
• Tommy Lingner played 44 minutes off the bench in goal and made nine saves while allowing three goals.

• Marist falls to 1-3 in NCAA postseason play.
• The Red Foxes took a 2-0 lead on their first two shots of the game.
• Jake Weinman tallied a hat trick to pace the Marist offense.
• Weinman’s second and third goals of the night ended the Red Foxes’ scoring drought and made the game 11-8 with 6:36 left in the fourth quarter.
• Jamison Embury added two goals and an assist, all of which came in the first half.
• Peyton Smith went 18-of-26 on faceoffs for the Red Foxes.
