Lai and Ragusa Named Pepsi Zero MAAC Student-Athletes of the Week

Women’s Golf

Quinnipiac University

Quinnipiac sophomore Queenie Lai was recently named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District® At-Large first team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

An accounting major, Lai finished the 2018-19 season with a 75.82 scoring average, the lowest single-season scoring average in program history. She also set program records in par 3 scoring and par 5 scoring.

The six-time MAAC Golfer of the Week (three in 2018-19) posted a 73 (+1) in the final round of the Tar Heel Classic in La Romana, Dominican Republic. The Hong Kong native finished tied for 39th overall after her strong final round. Lai finished the tournament at +9 (74-78-73=225) and finished higher than two golfers ranked in the top-100 nationally. She was one of just 30 golfers in the tournament to record eight birdies on the weekend, including three in the final round.

 

Anthony Ragusa

Men’s Track and Field

Rider University

Anthony Ragusa had a strong freshman campaign for the men’s track and field team, which he ended on a high note. Ragusa earned a silver medal at the MAAC Outdoor Championships in the javelin with a throw of 64.36m. A week later, he garnered All-East honors thanks to bringing home a silver medal in the javelin with a mark of 64.63m. Ragusa qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary Championships in the javelin thanks to setting a new program record in late March at the Rider 5-Way Meet. At the NCAA East Preliminary Championships, he finished 30th overall with a best throw of 61.30m.
