JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Saint Peter's women's volleyball has announced its 2019 slate. The schedule features 12 home-matches at the Yanitelli Center and appearances in three multi-team tournaments during the regular season.
The team will open up the 2019 season in three tournaments. The Peacocks' first serve of the fall will come on the final weekend of August in Brooklyn, NY at the 2019 Terrier Classic hosted by St. Francis Brooklyn. The Peacocks will play in three total matches from August 30-31 with one contest on Friday against the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) and two games on Saturday: Central Michigan in the morning and host St. Francis Brooklyn in the afternoon.
For the third straight year, the Peacocks will travel to Lewisburg, PA for the annual Bucknell Invitational on the weekend of September 6-7. In the tournament, the team will face Hampton and host Bucknell on Friday, September 6 and St. Francis Brooklyn again on Saturday, September 7.
Saint Peter's will head back to New Jersey for the 2019 home-opener on Wednesday, September 11. The Peacocks will host Delaware State in the season's first match at the Yanitelli Center.
Next, the Peacocks head north to Connecticut for the Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) Invitational. On Friday, September 13, the Peacocks face host CCSU. On Saturday, September 14, the Peacocks take on Bucknell for the second time followed by Rhode Island to close out the invitational.
Saint Peter's heads home for its second season clash against UMES following the final tournament. The Peacocks and Hawks will meet in Jersey City on Wednesday, September 18.
The next three contests will be on the road. First, the Peacocks open Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action on the road in New York City. The team will take on Manhattan on Saturday, September 21 and Iona on Sunday, September 22. The team will then head to Pennsylvania for an out of conference match at Lafayette on Tuesday, September 24.
The squad hosts Marist and Siena for a weekend conference series on Saturday, September 28 and Sunday, September 29 to close out the month of September. Then, to open up October, the team goes back on the road to Western New York to meet Canisius and Niagara on Saturday, October 5 and Sunday, October 6.
Saint Peter's schedule keeps the team home in its next 8 out of 10 matches. The stretch begins with five straight matches at the Yanitelli Center from October 12-22. The Peacocks welcome MAAC foes Fairfield (Saturday, October 12), Quinnipiac (Sunday, October 13), Manhattan (Wednesday, October 16), and hOURglass Rival Rider (Saturday, October 19), before welcoming non-conference opponent St. Francis Brooklyn (Tuesday, October 22) for their third meeting of the season. The Peacocks hit the road briefly for two MAAC contests in Hudson Valley, New York to end October. The meetings will be at Siena on Saturday, October 26 and at Marist on Sunday, October 27.
The Peacocks open the final month of the season while closing out the season's home-stand with three consecutive games in Jersey City. First, the unit plays host to Niagara on Saturday, November 2. Then, the squad welcomes Canisius on Sunday, November 3. Finally, the team plays Iona on Wednesday, November 6 to end the home season.
The women's volleyball team concludes the regular season with a three-match road stanza. The first two games will be played in Connecticut at Quinnipiac and Fairfield. The Peacocks visit the Bobcats on Saturday, November 9 and then the Stags on Sunday, November 10. The regular season comes to an end for Saint Peter's at rival Rider on Saturday, November 16.
The top six conference teams will qualify for the 2019 MAAC Women's Volleyball Championship, from November 22-24. The championship will be hosted by Fairfield University in Fairfield, Connecticut at George Bisacca Court at Alumni Hall. Saint Peter's last won the MAAC championship title in 1990 and the team last secured a MAAC regular season title in 2001.
