Fairfield Men's Soccer Schedule Set For 2019
FAIRFIELD, CT -- Fairfield University Head Men's Soccer Coach
Carl Rees announced the 2019 Stags schedule, a slate which will include seven home games at Lessing Field. The team will play a 17-game schedule which includes seven non-conference games and 10 matches against Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (
MAAC) opponents. Fairfield, which captured the 2018
MAAC regular-season title with an unblemished 8-0-2 record, will face three teams from America East, two from the Atlantic-10 Conference, and a game each versus the Patriot League and the Ivy League.
More than half of the Stags' 17 opponents posted a winning record a year ago and five foes won at least 10 games during the 2018 campaign. Fairfield will spend a lot of time on the road to start the schedule, playing five of its seven games against
non-MAAC teams away from campus. Head Coach
Carl Rees and his team will not face a
MAAC opponent until October 2, the first of 10 straight conference games that will carry through the end of the regular season.
The campaign kicks off on August 30 when Fairfield meets the University of Rhode Island for a 7 pm match. The Rams ended their 2018 run with a 15=5 overall record and captured the Atlantic-10 tournament title. The Stags will follow up with another Atlantic-10 foe in Saint Joseph's University, a side which ended the 2018 campaign on the positive ledger at 8-7-3 overall.
The home slate starts with a pair of Saturday games in early September, starting with a September 7 contest against Stony Brook. The
Seawolves are the first of three America East teams on the Fairfield docket this year. Fairfield will host the University of New Hampshire on September 14, a team which comes off an impressive 12-4-2 season which included an America East tournament championship in early November last year.
Fairfield will play its final three non-conference games on the road, beginning with an intrastate game against Yale University on September 18 on the Bulldogs' campus. The program ends its run against schools from other conferences the following week with a September 21 match up against the University of Hartford and a September 24 date at Army West Point. The conference season starts a week later with the Stags playing their first two
MAAC games at home.
The conference slate starts with an October 2 game against Rider University and continues with a home match against Saint Peter's on October 5, the team's only afternoon home game of the year. The Stags and the Peacock will meet up for a 3 pm start at Lessing Field. The next two games send Fairfield to New York State for an October 12 game with Iona, followed by a September 16 match at Marist College. Coach Rees and his team receive a brief respite from the road on October 19 when Monmouth University comes to Lessing Field for a night game.
After playing a road at Manhattan College on October 23, Fairfield finishes up the home portion of its schedule by hosting Siena College on October 26 at 7 pm and
Canisius College on October 30. The regular season comes to a close in November as the Stags head to Quinnipiac University on November 2 and to Niagara University on November 6. Should the Stags earn a
MAAC Tournament berth, they will play a conference tournament game on November 10 or 14, depending upon their tournament seeding.
