Iona’s Motschmann and Monmouth’s Murphy Compete at 2019 NCAA Track & Field National Championships
AUSTIN, TX – Iona College’s Johannes Motschmann and Monmouth University’s Corey Murphy concluded their 2019 track and field seasons on Wednesday at the NCAA National Championships, held in Austin, Texas.
Monmouth’s Murphy finished 13th in the Shot Put with a throw of 19.14 meters. The redshirt-senior qualified for the national championships with a third-place finish at the east regional on Saturday, May 25.
Murphy’s 13th place finish earns him a Second Team All-American honor. It is the second time this year that Murphy has earned All-American honors, after finishing 12th at the 2019 NCAA Indoor Track and Field National Championships. Murphy was named the MAAC Most Outstanding Performer for field events at this year’s MAAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Motschmann competed in the 3000M Steeplechase, after finishing seventh with a time of 8:41.04 at the NCAA East Regional on Friday, May 24. Motschmann ran in the first heat of the event Wednesday, however he did not finish the race. Motschmann was the 2019 MAAC Co-Most Outstanding Performer for track events at this year’s MAAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Up next, Monmouth’s Allie Wilson and Danielle Steff, along with Iona’s Jessica Scheriff, will be competing Thursday, June 6. Scheriff will be the first to compete Thursday, running in the 3000M Steeplechase preliminaries at 8:32 p.m., followed by Steff who will participate in the Javelin Throw finals at 9:15 p.m. Wilson will finish Thursday for the MAAC, racing in the 800M at 9:44 p.m.
