Marques Alston and Jewonda Bright Jenkins Named 2019 Monmouth University MAAC Basketball Honor Roll Inductees
EDISON, N.J. – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) has announced Marques Alston and Jewonda Bright Jenkins of Monmouth University will be inducted into the 2019 MAAC Honor Roll. Honorees will be enshrined in "The MAAC Experience" exhibit at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on Saturday, Sept. 14.
Each member institution of the MAAC honors one male and one female from its basketball "family" as part of the 2019 induction class. A dinner event takes place Saturday, Sept. 14 at the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame Court of Dreams to recognize the Honor Roll inductees.
Each honoree will also be profiled in the game program for the 2020 MAAC Basketball Championships and will be featured in a video display at "The MAAC Experience."
Marques Alston '07
A two-time conference champion, Marques Alston was a part of a great run of Monmouth Basketball from 2003-2007, which included two NCAA berths and a win over Hampton in the 2006 NCAA Opening Round. For his efforts in the 2006 NEC Championships, Alston was named to the All-Tournament Team as well as tournament MVP after picking up All-Conference Second Team honors that season.
Alston ranks in the top-20 all-time in scoring, netting over 1,100 career points, and finished his career in the top-10 in career field goals made with 435. Alston is currently eighth and finished his career fifth in career rebounding with 530, while playing in 126 games in his four-year career, which was the most in school history at the conclusion of his four seasons.
Jewonda Bright Jenkins '04
From 2001 to 2004, Jewonda Bright Jenkins starred for the Monmouth University women's basketball team.
Bright Jenkins brought tremendous energy and athleticism to the Hawks, ending her playing career as an exceptional post player. During her senior year, she was named to the All-NEC Second Team and Northeast Conference All-Tournament team, eventually finishing her tenure averaging 13.3 points and 6.6 rebounds per outing.
Bright Jenkins currently ranks 10th on the Monmouth all-time scoring list with 1,121 points, which she accumulated in only three seasons for the Hawks. She also ranks 15th on the all-time rebounding list with 569 boards for her career.
Bright Jenkins scored a career-high 36 points against Sacred Heart in 2004, which are the fifth-most points in a single game in program history.
With 440 field goals made on 788 attempts, she has the highest field goal percentage in Monmouth history (55.8%). She also ranks ninth on the career blocks list with 88. A native of Norfolk, Virginia, Bright Jenkins graduated with a degree in biology. The Monmouth star would go on to recieve her Master's in criminal justice from the University in 2009.
