MAAC Welcomes 2019-20 Fellows
EDISON, N.J. (Aug. 16, 2019) – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) welcomes its fellows for the 2019-20 academic year: Mathew Gonzalez, Michael Ionta and Kelsey Nugent.
The three recent college graduates will be an integral part of planning and executing the conference’s championships, ancillary events and day-to-day operations.
"The MAAC is thrilled to welcome Mathew, Michael and Kelsey to the team,” said MAAC Commissioner Rich Ensor. "We look forward to working with them and to helping them gain the knowledge and skills that will start them on the path toward successful careers in college athletics."
Past participants in the program have gone on to work full-time at the conference office, member institutions and various Division I athletic departments throughout the country.
The 2019-20 MAAC Fellows are as follows:
- Mathew Gonzalez (New Media Fellow) – Gonzalez graduated from Rider University in 2019 with his bachelor’s degree in Sports Management and Marketing with a minor in Public Relations. He was a four-year member of Rider’s cross country and track & field programs. While at Rider, Gonzalez also served as the Technical Director and Director for BroncVision, was a member of SAAC and interned at Athlete Network and USRowing.
- Michael Ionta (Administrative Fellow) – Ionta graduated from Saint Peter’s in 2018 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and is set to graduate from Rider in December 2019 with his master’s in Athletic Leadership. He was a baseball student-athlete at both Saint Peter’s (2015-18) and Rider (19). Prior to the MAAC, Ionta was a Marketing Coordinator Intern at Van Wagner Sports & Entertainment.
- Kelsey Nugent (Administrative Fellow) - Nugent graduated from Saint Peter’s in 2019 with her bachelor’s degree in Sports Management and a Minor in Marketing. She was a four-year member of the Saint Peter’s women’s soccer team and a one-year member of the women’s swimming team in 2016-17. Prior to the MAAC, Nugent interned with Saint Peter’s Athletics, Rutgers Athletics and Pro AM Beach Soccer.
