EDISON, N.J. (Aug. 21, 2019) – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) has released the 2019-20 women’s basketball conference schedule. The league moves back to a 20-game format, with every school playing both home and away against each opponent.

MAAC basketball begins Thursday, Jan. 2 and wraps up Saturday, March 7.

2019-20 Matchup Highlights

Three-time defending MAAC Champion Quinnipiac University will begin 2020 conference play by hosting Iona College at the People’s United Center on Jan. 2. The Bobcats are coming off of two-straight undefeated seasons against MAAC opponents. The team’s last MAAC loss came on Feb. 3 of 2017 against Fairfield University. Since then, Quinnipiac has won 52-straight games over MAAC foes. Other matchups to look out for on opening night include:
  • 2019 runner-up Marist College hosting Monmouth University at McCann Arena in Poughkeepsie, New York.
  • 2019 MAAC Player of the Year Stella Johnson and the Rider University Broncs hosting Niagara University.
  • Canisius College traveling to Manhattan College to take on the Jaspers and 2019 MAAC Defender of the Year Courtney Warley.
  • The Siena College Saints hosting a young Fairfield team that includes the 2019 MAAC Rookie of the Year Lou-Lopez Senechal.

Saint Peter’s University will begin conference play on Jan. 4, when the Peacocks travel to take on the Red Foxes.

The first rematch of the 2018 and 2019 MAAC Championship games is set for Jan. 23 at McCann Arena. The Bobcats have taken the last nine contests from the Red Foxes, with the last Marist win coming on Dec. 3, 2015. The two teams will meet again in Hamden, CT on Feb. 29.

The famed “Battle of the Bridge” between the Golden Griffins and Purple Eagles features two matchups this season. The first matchup for bragging rights in Western New York will be fought over on Jan. 27 at Niagara’s Gallagher Center. The two squads meet again on Feb. 24 at Canisius’ Koessler Athletic Center, a late season game that could have a high impact on seeding for the 2020 MAAC Basketball Championship.

Crosstown rivals Manhattan and Iona, separated by just over 10 miles, will meet on Jan. 25 at Draddy Gymnasium. The Jaspers swept both games against the Gaels during last year’s regular season.

The regular season ends on March 7 for ten teams, with Manhattan’s season ending against Monmouth on March 5. Seeds No. 4 through No. 9 for last year’s MAAC Basketball Championship were all decided on the last day of action. This season’s final day includes:
  • Quinnipiac finishing a Western New York trip against Canisius.
  • Fairfield hosting Niagara at the George Bisacca Court at Alumni Hall.
  • Iona making the short drive to Jersey City to take on Saint Peter’s.
  • Rider taking on New Jersey rival Monmouth in West Long Branch.
  • Siena finishing a two-game road trip against Marist.

The season concludes with the 2020 MAAC Basketball Championships, being held for the first time at the historic Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The conference champion earns the league’s automatic bid to the 2020 NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament.
