2019 MAAC Men’s Soccer Non-Conference Play Begins
EDISON, N.J. (Aug. 28, 2019) – The 2019 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) men’s soccer season kicks off on Thursday, Aug. 29 when Quinnipiac University travels to Boston College.
All 10 other MAAC institutions open up the season on Friday, Aug. 30 or Sunday, Sept. 1.
Fairfield University, led by 2019 Preseason All-MAAC selections Gordon Botterill, Matt McGlinchey and Jonas Vergin, starts its season on the road at the University of Rhode Island on Aug. 30. The Stags were named the preseason favorite, as voted by the league’s 11 head coaches. Fairfield (11-5-2, 8-0-2 MAAC) went undefeated in conference play during the 2018 regular season before falling to Rider University in the semifinals of the MAAC Championship.
Preseason Player of the Year Eamon Whelan looks to lead the Bobcats to a 1-0 record, alongside Preseason All-MAAC teammate Jeppe Haehre. Quinnipiac was voted No. 2 in the Preseason Coaches’ Poll.
Defending champion Rider starts its 2019 campaign on Aug. 30 when the team travels to Storrs, Connecticut to take on the UConn Huskies. Rider was voted No. 3 in the Preseason Coaches’ Poll and had one Preseason All-MAAC selection in Sylvain Coco.
