MAAC Pepsi Zero Women’s Basketball Weekly Awards go to Rider’s Johnson and Quinnipiac’s Haywood

Player of the Week
Stella Johnson, Rider
Sr., Denville, NJ/Morris Catholic
Senior guard Stella Johnson recorded a pair of double-doubles last week as Rider defeated Marist and Siena in MAAC play. Johnson averaged 21 points, 10 rebounds and over two assists per game. In the wins over the Red Foxes and Saints, she shot over 51 percent (16-of-31) from the field. She opened the week with 28 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and two steals in an overtime victory at Marist. Stella followed that up with 14 points, 10 rebounds and three assists against Siena. She currently leads the MAAC and all of Division I in scoring with 26.8 PPG. All three of her double-doubles this year have come in MAAC play. This is Johnson’s record breaking seventh MAAC Pepsi Zero Women’s Basketball Player of the Week award.
 
Rookie of the Week
Cur’Tiera Haywood, Quinnipiac
Fr., Yukon, OK/Mustang High School
Haywood averaged 18 points on the week with two career-high performances against Monmouth and Canisius. The first year shot 11-17 (.647) from the field and 5-6 (.833) from three-point range, scoring 17 against Monmouth and 19 against Canisius. Haywood also added nine rebounds, two blocks, and two steals on the week.
