Niagara vs. Manhattan Men's Basketball Set to Air on ESPNU
Riverdale, N.Y. (Jan. 21, 2020) – Niagara University (6-11, 4-2 MAAC) travels to Riverdale, New York to take on Manhattan College (8-7, 4-2 MAAC) on Feb. 7 at 7:00 p.m. The Friday night matchup is set to air on ESPNU as part of the MAAC Wildcard Game package.
Niagara and Manhattan, along with Monmouth University and Quinnipiac University, share a conference-best 4-2 record through the first six games of league play.
First-year Head Coach Greg Paulus has led the Purple Eagles to three-straight victories with wins over Siena College, Rider University and defending MAAC Champion Iona College. Sophomore Marcus Hammond leads the way for Niagara, averaging 13.1 points, 3.4 assists and 3.4 rebounds.
Manhattan leads the all-time series 55-33 and owns a four-game winning streak against the Purple Eagles. The two teams met earlier this month when the Jaspers earned a 67-62 road win on Jan. 5. Preseason All-MAAC selection Pauly Paulicap is averaging 9.1 points and a team-high 5.9 rebounds. Sophomore Tykei Greene leads the team with 11.2 points per game and picked up MAAC Player of the Week honors on Jan. 6.
The wildcard format allows ESPN to pick any game scheduled for that specific date to air on ESPNU and allows the MAAC and ESPN the flexibility to showcase the best matchups as the season progresses. Three more contests (Feb. 14, Feb. 21, Feb. 28) will be flexed onto ESPNU. Those matchups will be announced at a later date.
The regular season culminates with the 2020 MAAC Basketball Championships in the event’s inaugural year at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey from March 10-14. The Garden State will be home to the MAAC Basketball Championships for the first time since 2003. For tickets and more information, visit
