Friday Night Showdown Between Preseason Favorites Slated for ESPNU
Lawrenceville, N.J. (Jan. 6, 2020) – Friday night’s contest between Iona College (2-7, 0-2 MAAC) and Rider University (8-4, 2-0 MAAC) is set to air on ESPNU. The Gaels and the Broncs were voted No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, in the Preseason Coaches’ Poll.
Rider looks to build upon its 2-0 start to conference play, already collecting wins over Marist College and Siena College. Four Broncs are scoring in double-figures through 12 games in Stevie Jordan (14.3), Frederick Scott (13.9), Tyere Marshall (13.7) and Dimencio Vaughn (13.5). Marshall also ranks third in the league in rebounds per game (9.8) and second in field goal percentage (55.3%). Entering Friday’s contest, the Broncs are a perfect 4-0 at home.
The four-time reigning MAAC champions seek their first conference win of the season. The Gaels lost to Saint Peter’s University at the buzzer before falling on the road to Monmouth University. Preseason All-MAAC First Team selections E.J. Crawford and Tajuan Agee are leading the way for the Gaels. Crawford is averaging 16.9 points, good for second in the league, and boasts an 83.9 free throw percentage. Agee ranks in the top 10 in the MAAC in scoring (14.8), rebounding (7.6) and field goal percentage (55.3%).
The regular season culminates with the 2020 MAAC Basketball Championships in the event’s inaugural year at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey from March 10-14.
