NEW YORK, NY – Sophomore Juana Camilion has been named a co-winner of the Metropolitan Basketball Writer's Association Women's Player of the Week. The accolade comes a day after Camilion was named the MAAC Player of the Week and the College Sports Madness MAAC Player of the Week.
Camilion averaged 17.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game in the Gaels' 2-1 week, scoring in double-figures in all three games. She matched her career-best scoring effort, 26 points, in a win over Canisius on Thursday and followed that up with a game-high 17 points in Iona's victory over Niagara on Saturday.
The Palma de Mallorca, Spain native is the first member of the Maroon & Gold since Marina Lizarazu '17 to receive the honor.
Iona hosts Monmouth tonight at the Hynes Athletics Center, with tip-off set for 7:00 p.m. The Gaels look to sweep the season series from the Hawks for the first time since the 2015-16 season.
