Wagner’s Josephson and Campbell, LIU’s Dean Named Water Polo Players of the Week 2/12/2020 1:00:00 PM Offensive Player of the Week: Malia Josephson, Wagner Jr., Auckland, New Zealand/St. Cuthbert’s College For the second straight weekend, Josephson led a Wagner offense that has continued to find its stride. She paced the team in points, with 21, as well as in goals, with 15, including six goals and one assist in a win over No. 15 Harvard and six goals and one assist in a win over No. 23 Bucknell. The New Zealand native recorded the first three Seahawk goals against Harvard to single handedly keep Wagner in the game, before the rest of the offense joined her charge. Defensive Player of the Week: Katherine Campbell, Wagner Jr., Regina, Saskatchewan/Dr. Martin Leboldus Campbell continues to hold a Wagner defense together that has begun to show its true potential. Through four games in the Bison Invitational, the Regina, Saskatchewan native stopped 15 shots and grabbed a team leading nine steals in only 12 quarters of action. She held two top 25 ranked teams to thirteen goals in her time in the pool, while only allowing three goals in five quarters of play against St. Francis Brooklyn and Mercyhurst. She held the Mercyhurst Lakers scoreless in two quarters of action and helped the Seahawks to a 9-0 halftime lead. Rookie of the Week: Jessica Dean, LIU Fr., Regina, Saskatchewan/Campbell Collegiate Jessica Dean posted a team-high 22 points and 18 goals this past weekend at the Bucknell Invitational. She recorded a .581 shooting percentage and won 14 sprints for the Sharks in four games. The first-year driver recorded eight points on six goals and two assists in LIU’s 11-8 victory over Mercyhurst on Saturday. She followed that up with eight points on a season-high seven goals and one assist in a 15-14 sudden death overtime loss to Salem on Sunday.
