2020 MAAC Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track Championship Day One Recap
New York, N.Y. – At the conclusion of day one of the 2020 MAAC Indoor Track and Field Championships, the Monmouth University men and Rider University women find themselves atop the standings with 91 and 47 points respectively.

17 student-athletes, competing in 11 different events, were crowned MAAC Champions on day one.
Five Monmouth athletes were able to grab victory in five events; Kyle Mueller in the men’s 5000 meters, Randy Showmaker in the men’s pole vault, DJ Jackson in the men’s long jump, Rickie Casazza took home the men’s high jump and Montel Johnson won the men’s weight throw.
Three Rider athletes were also crowed MAAC Champions. Fidele Jules won the women’s weight throw while the team of Greenfield, Berry, Ward, and Schein-Becker won the women’s distance medley relay and Quinn Bithell brought home the women’s high jump.
Iona College was able to win two track events. Egle Morenaite won the women’s 5000 while the group of Dee, Susko, Hunziker, and Hopkins captured the men’s distance medley relay.
The Quinnipiac University Women also had a winner in Tara Zeni taking home the women’s long jump.

Day 1 Highlights
- The first medal of the 2020 MAAC Championship belongs to Montel Johnson of Monmouth as he threw for 18:81m in the men’s weight throw.
- On the women’s side, the first medal went to Tara Zeni as she took sole possession of the MAAC women’s long jump record with a distance of 6.24m, overtaking the previous record of 6.18m.
- Egle Morenaite picked up the MAAC Championships right where she left off in the regular season with a new meet record in the women’s 5000m, posting a time of 16:42:95.
- Kyle Mueller of the Monmouth Hawks captured a 5000m MAAC record of his own as he used a time of 14:07:39 to win the title, a whole eight seconds faster than the previous record.
