Canisius Director of Athletics Bill Maher announced Wednesday that head volleyball coach Lenika Vazquez has resigned her position at the College after being named the head coach at Northeastern University in Boston, Mass. Vazquez served as the Golden Griffins' head coach for four seasons.

"In her time as our head coach, Lenika has done a terrific job building our volleyball program into a consistent contender for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championship," Maher said. "We thank her for her service and dedication to the College and to our student-athletes, and wish her the best of luck in the next step of her career."

"Canisius volleyball has been a blessing in my life," Vazquez said. "To the administration and campus community, I thank you for allowing me to be a part of something special. Leading this program has given me the opportunity to grow as a person and as a coach. I appreciate each and every player that was a Griff before me, the players that I coached and the future Griffs. This program is special to me, and with a heavy heart, I leave Buffalo."

Canisius will immediately begin a national search for Vazquez's replacement.
