Wagner’s Josephson and Simshauser, St. Francis Brooklyn's Geva Take Home MAAC Water Polo Weekly Awards
Offensive Player of the Week
Malia Josephson, Wagner
Jr., Auckland, New Zealand/St. Cuthberts College
Josephson led the Seahawks this past weekend with 18 points over a three game span, including 11 goals and seven assists. She recorded a hat trick in each game, with nine of her 11 goals coming in the second half to help Wagner to a 2-1 record at the 2020 Bruno Classic. Most impressively, this all came on only 14 shots through the three games, for a shooting percentage of 78.6%.
Defensive Player of the Week
Inbar Geva, St. Francis Brooklyn
Fr., Tzoran, Israel/Rabin
Geva started in two games for the Terriers and picked up her first career win on Sunday morning against La Salle. For the week she went 1-1 in net. The freshman recorded 17 saves and notched a save percentage of .472. She registered nine saves in her debut on Saturday against Salem. On Sunday, she anchored the Terriers’ defense as she made eight saves en route to a 9-8 win over fellow MAAC member La Salle.
Rookie of the Week
Abbey Simshauser, Wagner
Fr., Sydney, Australia/Presbyterian Ladies College Sydney
Simshauser has continued to fill up the stat sheet in only her second weekend of collegiate water polo. She tied for the team lead with 11 goals on the weekend, including a hat trick in all three contests, while her six assists placed her in a tie for second on the team with 17 points. The Sydney, Australia native has a nose for the ball on defense as well as she grabbed four steals and blocked three shots, all while drawing a total of nine exclusions.
