Estrada, Hammond Collect Pepsi Zero MAAC Men’s Basketball Weekly Honors

Sophomore Marcus Hammond averaged team-highs in scoring with 24 points per game and in rebounds with 6.5 per game to help lead the Purple Eagles to victories over Saint Peter’s and Iona. He shot over 69 percent from the field and 66 percent from 3-pointers in the two games. Hammond scored a game-high 21 points against Saint Peter’s, while shooting a season-high 81.8 percent from the field, and grabbed six rebounds to share team-high honors. In the comeback overtime win over Iona, Hammond led the game in scoring with 27 points for this ninth 20-point game and his third straight. He drained a career-high seven 3-pointers, including the buzzer beater 3-pointer to send the game into overtime, which are the most by a Purple Eagle this season. He grabbed a team-high seven rebounds and shared team-high honors in steals with two.
Rookie of the Week
Aaron Estrada, Saint Peter’s

Freshman guard Aaron Estrada led Saint Peter’s to a crucial win at Canisius on Saturday, scoring the Peacocks’ final three points, which included a go-ahead layup with 34 seconds left and the game-winning free throw with 7.0 seconds remaining. The win secured a top-two seed for the Peacocks in the MAAC Championship. At Niagara on Thursday night, Estrada scored 10 points and grabbed a career-high five rebounds. He averaged 9.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists in two games last week.
