Atlantic City, N.J. (March 6, 2020) – The Philadelphia Fusion, one of the top professional Overwatch League teams, is partnering with the New Jersey Army National Guard 2020 MAAC Esports Championships, which takes place March 13-14 in the Adrian Phillips Theater at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.

The Fusion, who are currently 5-0 with more wins to start the season than any of the 20 Overwatch League teams, will sponsor a $5 discount to those who use the offer code “Fusion” when purchasing single session MAAC esports tickets via Ticketmaster. The Fusion will also provide free MAAC esports all-session passes to those who pre-purchased tickets to their third homestand this season, which will feature nine Overwatch League teams competing at the “Boardwalk Brawl” at Adrian Phillips Theater on June 6-7.
The Fusion will also provide MAAC esports fans with a virtual reality look at their $50 million Fusion Arena being built in the heart of the Philadelphia Sports Complex along with interacting team staff. The state-of-the-art display will be showcased in the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJDEA) sponsored display area on the concourse of the venue.

Seven MAAC schools – Canisius, Manhattan, Marist, Niagara, Quinnipiac, Saint Peter’s and Siena will compete in the MAAC’s inaugural esports championships in four different games: League of Legends and Overwatch, as well as Rocket League and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (SSBU) presented in partnership with the Electronic Gaming Federation (EGF).

“The Philadelphia Fusion are one of the leaders in esports and their involvement is another boost for the MAAC as we work to showcase esports as the next generation of college athletics,”
said MAAC Commissioner Rich Ensor. “The Fusion want to increase awareness levels of esports and are doing everything they can to showcase our first MAAC esports championships to their fan base and beyond. By working together we can help make Atlantic City an even more viable market for esports.”

Ensor pointed out that the Adrian Phillips Theater will be configured with three stages, each with 18 x 30 foot screens projecting the action. MAAC play will be streamed on Twitch.TV/officialegf or Twitch.TV/maacesports.

The NJDEA will also host a reception for the esports business community on March 13.

Single session adult tickets are $18 while an all-session package is $28. Student prices are $15 and $20, respectively. Tickets are available on ticketmaster.com. Esports action runs from 10 a.m. – 9:30 p.m.
