New York (April 20, 2020) – Six Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) women’s basketball players have been named to 2019-20 All-Met Teams, presented by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association. In addition, Rider University’s Stella Johnson and Lynn Milligan have been named the 2019-20 All-Met Division I Women’s College Basketball Player of the Year and Maggie Dixon Coach of the Year. All-Met awards are given out yearly to the best college basketball players in the Metropolitan area.

Johnson is joined by Marist College’s Rebekah Hand on the All-Met First Team. Making the All-Met Second Team is Marist’s Alana Gilmer and Grace Vander Weide and Manhattan College’s Courtney Warley. Manhattan’s Emily LaPointe was named an All-Met Third Team selection.

Johnson is the first Rider student-athlete to be named Player of the Year by the Met Basketball Writers Association. She is the sixth MAAC player to receive the award, joining Manhattan’s Gina Somma (1996), Saint Peter’s University’s Felicia Harris (2002), Marist’s Rachele Fitz (2009) and Erica Allenspach (2011), and Iona College’s Damika Martinez (2014). Johnson has been named the MAAC Player of the Year the past two seasons and was crowned the NCAA scoring champion this past year. The senior was drafted by the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury this past Friday night.

Milligan was named the Maggie Dixon Coach of the Year for the second time in her career, also taking home the award in 2017 as the Head Coach of the Broncs. She becomes one of only three MAAC coaches to claim the award more than once, joining Saint Peter’s Mike Granelli (1996, 1997) and Marist’s Brian Giorgis (2004, 2008, 2009, 2011). Milligan guided the Broncs to their first MAAC Regular Season Co-Championship in school history and the top seed in the Hercules Tires 2020 MAAC Basketball Championships.

Rebekah Hand and Stella Johnson return to the All-Met First Team after garnering the same honors the year before. The honor marks the third time Hand has been named an All-Met First Team selection throughout her career. Marist’s Alana Gilmer moves to the All-Met Second Team after receiving Third Team honors the year prior. Manhattan’s Courtney Warley makes the All-Met Second Team for the first time in her career. All four players were named to the All-MAAC First Team last month. Grace Vander Weide, an All-MAAC Second Team selection, was named to the All-Met Second Team for the first time in her career. Emily LaPointe, the 2019-20 MAAC Rookie of the Year, rounds out MAAC players on the All-Met Third Team.
