Fairfield Women’s Lacrosse Earns BSN Sports MAAC Community Spotlight Honors
Edison, N.J. (April 24, 2020) – The BSN Sports MAAC Community Spotlight will be a weekly feature of those giving back in an effort to make a difference in their communities. This week, with their annual matchup canceled, the Fairfield University and Niagara University women's lacrosse teams found a different way to face off against each other. The Stags and Purple Eagles took to Instagram, competing to garner the most followers and likes as a fundraiser for the Norma Pfriem Pink Pledge benefiting breast cancer awareness, treatment and research.
The friendly competition, arranged by Fairfield Head Coach Laura Field and Niagara Head Coach Wendy Stone, was held in honor of Wesleyan Women's Lacrosse Head Coach Kim Williams, who is currently battling breast cancer.
"Despite all of the heightened emotion and uncertainty with the abrupt end of our seasons, neither Niagara nor our team wanted to lose sight of the opportunity to do something positive within our communities," said Field. "The venue may have changed, but it was a fun and collaborative competition to fulfill our game-day pledge to Herd for a Cure until we're able to take on the Purple Eagles again next year."
In total, the programs raised $750 to benefit the Pink Pledge. The 2019-20 academic year was Fairfield's fourth year as a partner of the Norma Pfriem Breast Center through the "Herd for a Cure" initiative.

Pink Pledge is a month long, community wide, awareness and fundraising campaign to benefit Norma Pfriem Breast Center. Funds raised through Pink Pledge enable the Center to continue to provide medical excellence and compassionate care to ALL women, regardless of their ability to pay.
Norma Pfriem Breast Center was the first freestanding community breast center in Connecticut to offer one-stop coordination of care, patient navigation and rapid diagnosis. Norma Pfriem Breast Center is one of only 500 centers nationwide accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers and is a member of the prestigious National Consortium of Breast Care Centers.
