Turner Dirrigl of Canisius College Named MAAC SAAC Chair

Edison, N.J. (April 8, 2020) – Turner Dirrigl of the Canisius College Cross Country and Track and Field teams has been voted in as the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) SAAC Chair for the start of the 2020-21 academic year. Dirrigl will serve alongside MAAC SAAC Vice Chair Jamie Smith of Iona College.
 
The MAAC SAAC Chair will be assisted by the MAAC SAAC Vice Chair (Smith) in all aspects of oversight related to conference SAAC operations and initiatives. Dirrigl, a junior, will serve a two-year term.
 
"I’m honored to represent the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference as MAAC SAAC Chair. We’ve had strong leadership from TJ Stuart and Jamie Smith and I am eager to help further the progress they have made,” said Dirrigl. “I am very excited to work with Cindy Shi of the MAAC staff, and each of the 11 institutions to enhance the student-athlete experience. I’m proud to be a MAAC athlete and I am excited to represent our collective interests at the national level."
 
In 2017, Dirrigl was named to the MAAC Cross Country All-Rookie team. Since, he has also been a member of the MAAC All-Academic Team for cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field teams. 
 
Dirrigl, who is a member of Canisius SAAC Executive Board, also served as a counselor at the Aim High Running Camp in Northern New York. Among other programs, Dirrigl also volunteers as a teacher’s assistant at Buffalo Public School #74.  The Accounting and Accounting Information Systems dual major holds a 3.78 GPA, has made the Dean’s List each semester at Canisius, and is a member of Alpha Sigma Nu.
