Indianapolis (May 12, 2020) – A total of 47 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) programs received NCAA Public Recognition Awards after scoring in the top 10 percent of their sports in the recently released NCAA APR Awards Report. The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams.

"The MAAC and its members take pride in ensuring student-athletes succeed in both academics and athletics. The success of our multiyear APR reflects student-athlete dedication to their areas of study away from competition," said MAAC Commissioner Rich Ensor. "Congratulations to all the teams and programs around the MAAC for their continued success in the classroom."

Quinnipiac University and Siena College led the MAAC in NCAA Public Recognition Awards, with both institutions naming seven programs to the list. This is the fourth-straight year in which Siena has either had the most MAAC programs honored or tied for the conference lead. Fairfield University and Marist College followed, both with six programs ranking in the top 10 percent of their sport.

Women’s Golf led all sports with six MAAC teams receiving NCAA Public Recognition Awards. Women’s Golf teams recognized included La Salle University, Niagara University, Quinnipiac, Siena, The University of Dayton, and The University of Hartford. Men’s Golf was close behind with five programs, followed by Women’s Cross Country and Women’s Tennis with four programs each ranking in the top ten percent of their respective sports.

The Fairfield University, Marist, and Quinnipiac programs ranked in the top 10 percent for Women’s Basketball, while Monmouth University represented the MAAC on the men’s side.

The NCAA recognized nearly 1,400 Division I programs from 326 schools for their academic excellence. Teams earning Public Recognition Awards increased to 1,380, up by 52 from the previous academic year, largely due to an increase in squads with perfect scores. APRs for programs in the top 10 percent ranged from 987 to a perfect 1,000. The number of teams posting perfect scores increased to 1,266, an increase of 52 teams from last year.
