Edison, N.J. (May 14, 2020) – Five Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) student-athletes have been named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Baseball and Softball Teams. The 2020 Academic All-District Teams, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

Representing the MAAC on the 2020 Baseball Academic All-District Team in District 1 is Niagara University’s Peter Battaglia. MAAC student-athletes making the 2020 Softball All-District Team, all in District 1, include Iona College’s Marnie Skinner, Manhattan College’s Adriana Gambino, and Marist College’s Claire Oberdorf and Calista Phippen.

Battaglia, a senior first baseman for the Purple Eagles, was a Preseason All-MAAC selection. The senior hit .297 for Niagara over 16 games this season.

Skinner went 1-1 from the circle for the Gaels in the shortened 2020 season, pitching her way to a 3.97 ERA with five strikeouts over 12.1 innings pitched. The Moses Lake, Washington native was also announced as a top 30 finalist for the 2020 Senior CLASS Award earlier this spring.

Gambino hit .343 for the Jaspers this season over 12 games, adding on 7 RBIs and counting for 8 runs. A native of Stamford, Connecticut, Gambino is finishing her senior year as a civil engineering major at Manhattan.

Oberdorf, a two-sport athlete for the Red Foxes, played in 19 games this season while batting .379. An infielder from Greensburg, Pennsylvania, Oberdorf collected 14 RBIs and 16 runs on 22 hits.

Phippen was selected to the Preseason All-MAAC team as a pitcher. The sophomore made waves in MAAC play a season ago, sharing MAAC Rookie of the Year honors and making the All-MAAC First Team.

Honorees selected first-team Academic All-District will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. Academic All-America honorees will be announced from June 8-11.
