COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – The College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) announced its Spring 2020 Scholar All-America Teams on Tuesday morning. The Iona men's and women's swimming and diving programs both earned CSCAA Scholar All-America status.
The Iona women's program appears on the list for the 21
st consecutive semester, dating back to the spring of 2010. The Iona men earn the distinction for the 18
th time in the past 21 semesters.
The Iona men held a team GPA of 3.53 in the spring semester, with 15 student-athletes posting a 3.5 GPA or higher. The Iona women's 3.77 overall GPA in the spring semester was highlighted by a conference-high 21 student-athletes on the MAAC All-Academic Team, as well as 26 student-athletes notching a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
As per the CSCAA: Institutional adjustments to grading systems resulted in GPAs nearly one-quarter letter grade higher than previously. As a result, the CSCAA will not be publishing team GPAs. Teams were selected on the basis of their spring grade point averages and represent 17,982 student-athletes.
CSCAA Executive Director Greg Earhart mentioned the efforts of head coach
Nick Cavataro noting that "No team was unaffected by this spring's pandemic, but Athletic Director
Matthew Glovaski and Provost Darrell P. Wheeler can and should be proud of their team and the work of Nick."
The CSCAA will announce individual Scholar All-Americans next week.
