NEW ROCHELLE, NY – The Iona College women's soccer team volunteered time this past Saturday to help host a food drive at Stop & Shop in New Rochelle. The Gaels accepted donations of non-perishable food items that supported the HOPE Food Pantry and the New Rochelle community.

"It was a great day; we were able to fill an entire van with non-perishable food items and give back to the community," head coach Todd Plourde said. "In these times, everyone needs to help others, and we were happy to do our part."

The team collected items from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., while adhering to social distancing guidelines. Angelina DeCicco, the Community Service chair of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), spoke about organizing the event and why her and her teammates volunteered their time.

"As student-athletes, our biggest thing is to give back to the community were in," DeCicco said. "We wanted to get behind it and help as much as we could."
