MAAC to Hold Virtual XC Challenge
MAAC to Hold Virtual XC Challenge
EDISON, N.J. (Sept. 30, 2020) – With the objective of providing student-athletes a safe and competitive opportunity this fall, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) announced today the first ever MAAC Virtual XC Challenge, presented by New Jersey Army National Guard. In an effort to give back to the community, all net proceeds from the event will be donated to the Monmouth/Ocean County Foodbank.
The event will be a 5K (3.11 miles) in length, open to all students from the 11 MAAC member institutions. Registration for the MAAC Virtual XC Challenge opens Thursday, Oct. 1 and will stay open until Wednesday, Oct 28 at 5:00 p.m. The event itself will take place Thursday, Oct. 29 through Saturday, Oct. 31, with participants running from wherever they would like. The cost to participate is five dollars per person, plus a processing fee.
"The MAAC Virtual XC Challenge is a great way for MAAC students to compete in a fun and healthy event while also staying socially responsible during the COVID-19 pandemic," said MAAC Commissioner Rich Ensor. "I encourage all students to sign up, as this challenge provides all who partake with a great way to stay active while also helping a great cause in the Monmouth/Ocean County Foodbank. Challenge your classmates to get involved, challenge other teams on campus to try to beat your times. Most importantly, stay safe and have fun!"
Participants can sign up by visiting
MAACSports.com/VirtualXCChallenge, where all event information and frequently asked questions can be found.
"The MAAC Virtual XC Challenge gives athletes in all sports the opportunity to compete in a fun and safe environment," said Race Director and Former Monmouth University Director of Track and Field and Cross Country/Head Coach Joe Compagni. "Coaches can have their team do a 5K all-together, in small groups or even individually. In a fall when we are not able to compete head to head, it's a great way for students to stay sharp and test their fitness while benefitting those in need."
Participants can submit their results to the
RunSignup website, where registration will take place, to see how they did against others throughout the MAAC. Once all submissions are compiled, race results will be posted to RunSignup and to MAACSports.com.
