Iona's Tamantha Pizarro '20 Earns Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Award

NEW ROCHELLE, NY – Iona College track & field alumna Tamantha Pizarro '20 has been recognized as a 2020 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar by the NCAA's Diverse: Issues In High Education. The NCAA board sponsors the Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Awards to honor students of color who have excelled in the classroom as well as on the athletic field.
The honor is inspired by tennis legend Arthur Ashe, Jr.'s commitment to education as well as his love for the game of tennis. Those honored embody his persona athletically, academically and civically.
Pizarro was named to the third team among all the Track & Field honorees. She had a perfect 4.0 GPA in her fall 2019 semester and had a cumulative GPA of 3.65, graduating with a degree in mathematics. Pizarro was named to 12 different MAAC All-Academic Teams spanning the cross country, indoor and outdoor track & field seasons.
