Canisius’ Green and Siena’s Brown Named Hercules Tires MAAC Student-Athletes of the Week

EDISON, N.J. (Jan. 13, 2021) – Canisius College’s Malek Green and Siena College’s Rayshel Brown have been named the Hercules Tires Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Student-Athletes of the Week.

Men’s Basketball
Green has appeared in all six games for the Griffs so far this season, where he is averaging 10.7 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. His 7.0 rebounds per contest is currently tied for the fifth-best average in the conference. In his Canisius debut last month, Green posted 18 points and seven boards in a victory over Marist. He followed up that performance with his fifth career double-double, scoring 11 points and tying his career high in rebounds (13) in a loss to the Red Foxes.
 
Green, who is a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, is studying sport management at Canisius.
 
Rayshel Brown
Siena
Women’s Basketball
A transfer from La Salle who was granted immediate eligibility during the 2019-20 season, Brown has appeared in all 27 games that she has been active for the Saints, including the team's first two contests of the 2020-21 campaign. The Staten Island, New York native averaged 9.9 points and 3.3 rebounds in 25 games during her junior year, including season highs of 20 points and nine boards during the team's MAAC First Round victory over Canisius on March 10, 2020. Brown was named a Preseason Third Team All-MAAC selection and posted double figures in each of the Saints’ first two games of the season.
 
A sociology major, Brown holds a 3.24 cumulative mark, and posted a 3.52 GPA for the spring 2020 team. Along with the rest of the women's basketball team, Brown took part in helping to launch the Saints Vote initiative that challenged all Siena teams and eventually all teams in the MAAC to register to vote in the 2020 Presidential Election.
