Iona’s Juran and Canisius’ Peppy Named Hercules Tires MAAC Student-Athletes of the Week

EDISON, NJ (October 27, 2021) – Iona’s Samantha Juran and Canisius’ Michael Peppy have been named the Hercules Tires Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Student-Athletes of the Week.

Senior Michael Peppy posted his second top-five finish of the season at the Canisius Alumni Classic on Oct. 16, claiming fifth place with a time of 26:28 during the men’s 8k race to help the Golden Griffins post a second-place finish in their final regular-season race before the MAAC Championships. In September, Peppy won the men’s 5k race at the Little Three Championships, crossing the tape with a time of 15:40, pacing Canisius as it claimed its 15th consecutive team title at the event. A native of Bemus Point, N.Y., Peppy is a biology/pre-med major who is a three-time MAAC All-Academic Team honoree.

With 27 assists in the sweep over Quinnipiac, junior setter Samantha Juran became the 12th player in Iona history to record 1,000 or more career assists. On the season Juran leads the Gaels with 512 assists and averages 7.11 assists per set. The NY native also leads the team with 19 service aces.
