Iona Secures 31st-Straight MAAC Men’s Cross Country Championship

LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL (Oct. 30, 2021) – Iona College claimed its NCAA record 31st-straight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men’s Cross Country Championship on Saturday, October 30 at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at the Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. 2021 Men’s Most Outstanding Runner Jamie Dee paced the Gaels with a finishing time of 24:36.9 on the 8K course.
 
Dee became Iona’s 21st consecutive individual champion dating back to 2002.
  
Iona secured four of the top-five spots, with a team score of 17 en route to the title. Dee was followed by teammates Joshua DeSouza (24:37.0), and Ehab El-Sandali (24:37.0), in second and third place, respectively. Siena’s Brandon Olden finished in fourth-place with a time of 24:44.0 and Ion’a Jonathan DeSouza (24:47.4), to round out the top five.
 
The 2021 MAAC Men’s Cross Country Most Outstanding Rookie was Luke Miller from Monmouth. Miller finished with a time of 25:41.9 placing 21st overall.
 
Along with Miller, Noah Taylor (25:42.8) of Rider, Iain Taylor (26:23.4) of Rider, Luke Tkaczyk (26:49.7) of Siena, and Tamrat Snyder (26:54.2) of Rider, were named to the MAAC All-Rookie Team.
 
Postseason competition continues Friday, November 12 in Boston, Massachusetts at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship. The NCAA Division I Championship will take place November 20 in Tallahassee, Florida at Apalachee Regional Park hosted by Florida State.
