Marist’s Newblatt, Canisius’ Long and Zaucha Earn Molten MAAC Volleyball Weekly Awards

Newblatt averaged 5.23 kills per set for Marist, recording a double-double across three matches. In the win over Quinnipiac, the sophomore registered 18 kills on .348 hitting and collected 10 digs without any receiving errors. She followed that up with a career-best 26 kills and 20 digs in a four-set win over Saint Peter's. In Sunday's match at Rider, she led the game with 24 kills, and added 17 digs and four blocks. The Clarkston, MI native has eclipsed 20 kills in three of her last four appearances, and is averaging 18.2 kills per match in her last two matches.

Canisius junior Bree Long averaged 4.00 digs per set last week as the Golden Griffins went on the road and defeated Iona and Manhattan. In the 3-2 comeback win over Iona on Saturday, Long was credited with a match-high 22 digs, her fourth 20-plus dig effort of the season. In the sweep of Manhattan, she was credited with 10 digs, her seventh consecutive match with 10-or more digs.
 
Rookie of the Week
Kara Zaucha, Canisius

Canisius freshman Kara Zaucha averaged 3.13 kills and 1.0 blocks per set last week as the Golden Griffins went on the road and scored a pair of wins over Iona and Manhattan. In the win over Iona, the Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio native had 10 kills and 5.0 blocks before pounding down a season-high 15 kills in the sweep of the Jaspers on Sunday. For the week, she hit .375 and she also recorded four digs in eight sets as well.
