The Iona College men's basketball team gritted out a 65-53 win over defending Sun Belt Conference champion Appalachian State in front of a near sold out Hynes Center in non-conference play at the Hynes Center. The Gaels picked up a victory on opening night, led by graduate guard Tyson Jolly's game-high 19 points and graduate forward Dylan van Eyck's 17 points.

Manhattan cruised to a 99-42 win over Manhattanville on Tuesday afternoon at Draddy Gymnasium. The Jaspers shot a scorching 48 percent (12-of-25) from three en route to victory. Ant Nelson was the top scorer for Manhattan with 13 points on two of three shooting from long range.

Miami Hurricanes recorded a 77-67 win over Canisius in men's basketball action Tuesday night at Watsco Center in Coral Gabels, Fla. Canisius senior Malek Green led all scorers with 21 points, and he also grabbed eight rebounds to go with three assists and a blocked shot in the losing effort for the Golden Griffins.

Trailing by as many as 17 points in the first half, the Saint Peter's University men's basketball stormed all the way back to take the lead with less than two minutes remaining, but could not hold on as they fell 57-54 on the road against Virginia Commonwealth University in the season opener at the Siegel Center. Junior Doug Edert led all scorers in the game with 17 points after going 5 for 7 from the 3-point range to reach double figures for the 19th time in his collegiate career.

St. Bonaventure scored 16 unanswered points down the stretch as the 23rd ranked Bonnies pulled away from Siena Basketball 75-47 in the season-opening Br. Ed Coughlin Franciscan Cup at the Reilly Center. Aidan Carpenter and Jayce Johnson scored 10 points apiece to pace the Saints, who have dropped 11 straight against Associated Press Top-25 teams.
