POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Senior back Justin Scharf of the Marist men's soccer team was named CoSIDA Academic All-District on Thursday.
Scharf is a Business Administration major who was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference All-Academic Team on Monday. He made the Dean's List in both semesters of the 2020-21 school year, and was named to the MAAC Academic Honor Roll last summer.
This season, Scharf's efforts helped led the Red Foxes to the MAAC regular-season championship. He has helped solidify a defense which led the conference in goals against average and shutouts. Scharf is one of two Red Foxes to start all 19 of the team's matches this season. His 1,677 minutes played rank second on the Red Foxes. He also notched assists in back-to-back victories against Manhattan and Monmouth this season. Scharf is a co-captain for the Red Foxes.
Scharf transferred to Marist in the 2020-21 school year after playing his first two collegiate seasons at Lehigh. In 2019, he started all 20 contests as the Mountain Hawks won the Patriot League regular season and tournament championships.
The Marist men's soccer team (11-6-2 overall) returns to action tonight, when the top-seeded Red Foxes face seventh-seeded Monmouth in the MAAC Championship semifinals. The Red Foxes advanced following their 3-0 win over Manhattan in Sunday's quarterfinal round. In the regular season, Marist recorded a 1-0 triumph over Monmouth on Oct. 20. The winner will advance to Sunday's championship match, where an NCAA Tournament berth will be on the line.
