Sunday’s championship contest will be the second meeting this season between the two sides at Tenney Stadium, having met exactly one month ago on Oct. 13. During the first matchup, Marist came away with a 4-2 home victory over Rider. Goals by the Red Foxes in the win were scored by Richard Morel, Andre Cutler-DeJesue, Stefan Copetti, and Jacob Schulman, while Rider’s two tallies came from Zaki Alibou and Lenny Cidolit. The win for Marist sparked its current eight-match unbeaten streak.
Marist is making its first trip to the title game since 2005 and fifth overall appearance. The Red Foxes have won three championships with the last coming in 2005. Rider will be playing in the final for the seventh time, the program’s first since four-straight appearances from 2015 to 2018. The Broncs have claimed a league-best five crowns, last hoisting the trophy in 2018.
The last time Marist and Rider faced each other in postseason play was during the championship match of the 2004 MAAC Men’s Soccer Championship with Marist earning a 2-0 win, the first of back-to-back title runs for the program.
