EDISON, NJ (Nov. 13, 2021) – Four out of the six Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) men’s basketball teams in action on Friday picked up victories, highlighted by Manhattan’s “Battle of the Bronx” comeback win, while Marist, Quinnipiac, and Rider each secured its first wins of the young season.

Manhattan overcame a 10-point second half deficit to win the “Battle of the Bronx” 66-60 over Fordham. Samir Stewart hit the go ahead three with 34 seconds left to put the Jaspers up for good, then Jose Perez came up with a big block and hit a free throw with 15 seconds left to clinch the win for the Jaspers. Elijah Buchanan finished with 17 points and seven rebounds and was crowned the “Battle of the Bronx” Player of the Game for the second time after also taking home the honors in 2019.

The Marist men's basketball team never trailed, earning its first victory of the season on Friday night with an 82-67 triumph at Ivy League foe Columbia. Marist shot .587 (27-for-46) from the field, .522 (12-for-23) from three-point range, and .842 (16-for-19) from the free-throw line. Six Red Foxes scored in double digits: Raheim Sullivan (17), Ricardo Wright (16), Matt Herasme (10), Jordan Jones (10), Noah Harris (10), and Jao Ituka (10).

Rider University men's basketball team defeated Coppin State, 81-69, in the Broncs' home opener Friday night at Alumni Gym. Dimencio Vaughn had a game-high 23 points and nine rebounds and Dwight Murray Jr. added 17 points for the second-straight game. The Broncs led for 37 minutes and 10 seconds, while trailing for just 59 seconds of game time.
