EDISON, NJ (November 6, 2021) – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Women’s Soccer Championship Final kicks off this Sunday at 2 pm featuring top-seeded Monmouth University (14-4-1, 8-1-1 MAAC) and second-seeded Quinnipiac University (13-4-1, 7-3 MAAC) at 1 p.m. at Hesse Field on the campus of Monmouth University in West Long Branch, NJ.
During their regular season matchup, Monmouth edged Quinnipiac 2-1 on September 25 behind two first-half goals from All-MAAC First Team selection Jill Conklin and MAAC All-Rookie Team selection Ava Allen. Quinnipiac answered in the 71
st minute with a Selena Salas goal, but the two-goal deficit was too much for the Bobcats to overcome. Monmouth goalie Maddie Ogden recorded three saves in the Hawks’ victory.
The last time Monmouth and Quinnipiac squared off in the postseason was just last season when Monmouth defeated Quinnipiac, 2-0 in the MAAC Championship Semifinals. Monmouth’s goals both came in the second half from 2021 All-MAAC Second Team selection Lauren Karabin and junior forward Alexa Correa.
Monmouth has captured five MAAC Championship titles, while Quinnipiac is in search of their first in program history.
This will be the first time Quinnipiac has advanced to the MAAC Championship Final since falling to Monmouth in 2016 by a final score of 5-2 as Monmouth has now made six-straight MAAC Championship Finals appearance.
While Monmouth has bested Quinnipiac in recent history, the Bobcats have won nine of their last 11 games to close out the regular season and into the postseason. Between the two teams, Monmouth boasts a roster with five 2021 All-MAAC selections, while Quinnipiac holds a roster with four, respectively.
