2021 MAAC Men’s Soccer Championship Semifinals Set for Thursday Night

EDISON, NJ (Nov. 10, 2021) – The 2021 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men’s Soccer Championship semifinals are set for Thursday, November 11. Both semifinals kick off at 7 p.m. with No. 1 Marist hosting No. 7 Monmouth and No. 5 Rider hosting No. 6 Fairfield.
 
No. 1 Marist (11-6-2, 7-2-1 MAAC) vs. No. 7 Monmouth (8-8-2, 5-5 MAAC)

Top-seeded Marist, which makes its third semifinals trip in the last four seasons, plays host to defending MAAC champion, Monmouth at Tenney Stadium for the first time this fall season. The teams previous met in West Long Branch, on Oct. 20, when the Red Foxes edged the Hawks 1-0. Kyle Galloway scored the game-winner for Marist in the 77th minute off a double assist coming from Justin Scharf and Henrique Cruz.
 
Thursday’s match will be the first ever tournament meeting between the two programs.
 
Marist will be looking to make its first championship final since 2005, while Monmouth is seeking to make back-to-back title appearances for the first time since 2014 and 2015.
 
No. 5 Rider (9-7-2, 5-4-1 MAAC) vs. No. 6 Fairfield (7-8-2, 5-4-1 MAAC)

Making its sixth semifinal over the past seven seasons, No. 5 Rider welcomes No. 6 Fairfield, which is making its second straight semis appearance. This will be the second time this season the sides meet in Lawrenceville, having also played on Oct. 20, when the Broncs snagged a 4-3 home win over the Stags. The seven-goal affair featured tallies by Rider’s Taner Bay, Zaki Alibou, Sergio Aguinaga, and Jeremy Peterson and Fairfield’s Jonathan Filipe (2) and Thomas Drillien.
 
Rider and Fairfield last met in postseason action during the semifinals of the 2018 MAAC Championship, with No. 5 Rider earning a 2-0 upset win over No. 1 Fairfield.
 
The two most successful current MAAC members, both programs boast a league-high five MAAC championship crowns. Rider will attempt to make the title match for the first time since 2018 and Fairfield will look to make the conference final for the first time since 2017.
