Rider, Siena Downed to Recap MAAC Women's Basketball Sunday Afternoon

The Rider University women's basketball team secured a halftime lead Sunday afternoon, but a pair of second-half runs by the U.S. Naval Academy proved to be too much to overcome for the Broncs, eventually falling 73-59. Senior guard Lenaejha Evans scored a team-high 18 points to go along with five rebounds while sophomore guard Makayla Firebaugh contributed 15 points and seven boards. Junior guard Jessika Schiffer added 11 points in the scoring column and sophomore forward Raphaela Toussaint added nine points and seven boards. The Broncs open up league play at home on Saturday when they take on the Quinnipiac University Bobcats (5-4) at 2 pm.

The Siena Saints were within six points with 4:30 left to play in the third, but could not get any closer as they were defeated by the UAlbany Great Danes by a final score of 64-44 in the 23rd matchup for the Albany Cup. Senior Amari Anthony led all scorers with 12 points while also leading the Green and Gold with six rebounds and two assists. Fifth-year Rayshel Brown added 10 points, while freshman Anajah Brown also added six rebounds. Freshman Imani Harris also added three steals. The Saints’ next contest is at home next Monday at 7 pm as they open up league play against Rider (2-7).
