Canisius, Marist, and Niagara Pull Out Close Wins in Non-Conference Men’s Basketball on Saturday

EDISON, NJ (Dec. 19, 2021) – A trio of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) men’s basketball teams claimed victories on Saturday, featuring Big 4 Rivalry wins by Canisius and Niagara at KeyBank Center and an overtime thrilling win for Marist on the road.

Canisius men's basketball secured a thrilling 65-64 come-from-behind victory over cross-town rival Buffalo on Saturday at KeyBank Center in the Big 4 Tripleheader. The Golden Griffins erased a four-point deficit in the game's final 20 seconds, with Ahamadou Fofana hitting the game-winning 3-point field goal from the top of the key with 1.1 seconds left, sealing the win and snapping a five-game losing skid for Canisius. Armon Harried scored a game-high 20 points, Fofana finished with 16 points, and Scott Hitchon added 10 points.

The Marist men's basketball team earned an 84-79 overtime victory at Boston University on Saturday as the Red Foxes erased an 11-point deficit in the second half. Freshman Jao Ituka scored a career-high 34 points, now the MAAC single-season game-high and the most points by a Red Fox since 2016, to lead all scorers. Ricardo Wright (14) and Raheim Sullivan (11) also scored in double figures in the win.

The Niagara men's basketball team defeated UAlbany, 66-58, in the Big 4 Tripleheader at the KeyBank Center on Saturday. Marcus Hammond led the Purple Eagles in scoring with 20 points, followed by Jordan Cintron’s 12 points and team-high eight rebounds. Greg Kuakumensah added 12 points for the Purple Eagles.

The Saint Peter's men's basketball team squandered a double-digit second half lead, falling to Stony Brook 64-63 on Saturday at Island Federal Arena in Stony Brook, New York. KC Ndefo led the Peacocks with 13 points and added five blocks to his MAAC-leading total, while Daryl Banks III scored 12 points for the Peacocks.
