In the 2021-22 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) men’s basketball league opener for both Iona and Marist, the Gaels came away with a 78-71 road win over the Red Foxes on Wednesday night at McCann Arena in Poughkeepsie, New York. Each side held a lead as large as nine points in the second half, but the Gaels 14-0 run over the final two plus minutes of the game ultimately led to the seven-point victory for the preseason favorite. Iona’s Quinn Slazinski led all scorers with a career-high 20 points, while Jao Ituka led the Red Foxes with 19 points.

The 2021-22 campaign culminates with the 2022 Hercules Tires MAAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships from March 8-12 at Atlantic City's Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall.
