NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Championship – First Round

Fairfield University (24-9, 16-2 MAAC) fell just short of knocking off 13
th seeded UCLA (24-5, 16-4 Pac-12) last night in the First Round of the 2021 NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Championship. UCLA won by two points in each of the three sets to inch past the Stags who were making their 12
th appearance in the NCAA Tournament as MAAC Champions.
Fairfield Notes
- The Stags served for set point in two of the three sets.
- Laura Seeger led the Stags with 12 kills in her last game as a Stag.
- 2021 MAAC Rookie of the Year Mikayla Haut posted nine kills.
- K.J. Johnson, the 2021 MAAC Player of the Year recorded eight kills.
- 2021 MAAC Setter of the Year Manuela Nicolini recorded 22 assists in her final collegiate match.
- Ella Gardiner set a Fairfield NCAA postseason record with eight blocks which helped the Stags out block the Bruins, 11-7.
- The 2021 Fairfield Stags won the 12th MAAC Championship and 20th MAAC Regular Season Championship in program history. Fairfield's roster boasts six seniors and two graduate students in addition to the 13 underclassmen who are set to return for the 2022 campaign.
