EDISON, NJ (Dec. 6, 2021) – All five road teams came away with impressive wins on Sunday to highlight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) men’s basketball league action. Headlining Sunday were both Fairfield and Monmouth who swept their trips to Western New York, improving to 2-0 in conference play, while Marist, Quinnipiac, and Siena each earned its first league win.
Fairfield (5-3, 2-0 MAAC) – 81 | Niagara (3-5, 0-2 MAAC) – 71

Fairfield never trailed in the second half, leading to an 81-71 win over Niagara on the road Sunday afternoon. The Stags overcame a 31-24 deficit with a 21-2 run to overtake the lead and never look back. A quartet of Stags scored in double figures led by Caleb Green with 16 points, Zach Crisler’s 14 points, Taj Benning’s 13 points and Jesus Cruz added 11 points. Fairfield is 2-0 to start the MAAC slate for the first time since 2014-15. Niagara also had four players surpass double digits, with Jordan Cintron (14), Justin Roberts (12), Marcus Hammond (11), and Noah Thomasson (10) each scoring above 10.

Behind a 13-point halftime lead, Marist defeated Rider 79-67 in Lawrenceville, NJ to earn its first MAAC win of the season. Ricardo Wright paced the Red Foxes with 27 points and seven rebounds and Raheim Sullivan pitched in with 14 points. Rider’s Dimencio Vaughn led all scorers with a game-high 28 points and 10 rebounds to register a double-double for the Broncs.

Monmouth improved its winning streak to seven straight games following a 79-65 win over Canisius on Sunday in Buffalo, NY. The Hawks open league play 2-0 for the first time since 2016-17 and third time ever. Walker Miller scored a career-best 24 points, George Papas posted his first career double-double, scoring 19 points and grabbing 11 rebounds, and Shavar Reynolds scored in double figures for the sixth straight time with 18 points to lead Monmouth. Canisius had three players in double digits; Armon Harried (20), Akrum Ahemed (16), and Jordan Henderson (13).

Quinnipiac topped Manhattan 90-73 at Draddy Gymnasium on Sunday. The Bobcats outscored the Jaspers 57-42 in the second half, powered by a 23-7 run over a five-minute span to spearhead the win. A career-day by Matt Balanc led to 31 points. Savion Lewis chipped in with 18 points, while Tymu Chenery (12) and Kevin Marfo (10) also scored in double digits for the Bobcats. Jose Perez (25) and Ant Nelson (22) combined to score 47 of the Jaspers 73 points.
Siena (3-6, 1-1 MAAC) – 60 | Saint Peter’s (2-4, 1-1 MAAC) – 58

Siena ended its 11-year Jersey City drought, surviving a late comeback by Saint Peter’s en route to a 60-58 road win. The Saints led by as many as 24 points in the win but the Peacocks used a 24-4 run over the final seven plus minutes including a 21-0 rally to bring the game within one possession with under one minute to play. Siena’s Aidan Carpenter led Siena with 15 points and Colby Rogers followed with 14 points. Daryl Banks III scored a team-high 14 points for the Peacocks with freshman Jaylen Murray adding 11 points.
