NEW ORLEANS, LA – On Tuesday afternoon, the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released its NCAA Division I Cross Country Regional Rankings. The Iona College men's and women's program are represented in the second regional rankings of 2021.

For the second consecutive week, the Maroon & Gold men's program is ranked first in the Northeast Region. The Gaels are ranked atop the region edging out UMass Lowell, Syracuse, Stony Brook, and Providence. Iona is the only Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference school represented in the Regional Rankings.

Iona's men's program is considered a contender on the national stage returning seven runners from last year's squad that placed No. 12 at the NCAA Championship race in Terre Haute, IN. The Maroon & Gold aim to win their 30th consecutive league championship when it laces up at the Seaview Golf Club in Galloway, NJ on Friday, March 5.

On the women's side, Iona moves up to second in the Northeast Region. The Gaels trail only Providence of the Big East Conference. The Maroon & Gold have increased their depth on the team while senior Egle Morenaite leads the way as a three-time MAAC Champion, two-time USTFCCCA All-Region honoree and two-time USTFCCCA Cross Country All-American.

The Gaels are one of two MAAC women's teams ranked in the Regional Rankings. Marist is ranked eighth in the Northeast Region.

The NCAA Championship is on Monday, March 15 in the OSU Cross Country Course in Stillwater, OK.
