MAAC Hires Bill Hanousek & Matthew LaRochelle as Directors of New Media
EDISON, NJ (Feb. 23, 2021) – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) announced today the hiring of Bill Hanousek & Matthew LaRochelle as the MAAC's Directors of New Media for Communications.
In their positions, Hanousek & LaRochelle will assist in the marketing, content development, championship operations, promotion and development of the MAAC. In addition, they will serve as the media contacts for MAAC hosted NCAA events, oversee conference award processes, maintain conference statistics, and serve as the liaison for MAAC sports information directors.
“We are very happy to have Bill join the MAAC family,” said MAAC Commissioner Rich Ensor. “Coming from ‘The World’s Most Famous Arena’ he will bring a vast array of experience that will be a great asset to the MAAC. We are looking forward to having him join the team.”
Before joining the MAAC, Hanousek worked at The Madison Square Garden Company as a Manager of Marquee Events. At The Garden, his main function was developing and executing all marketing activities relating to 65+ sporting events each season - including college basketball, college hockey, college wrestling, tennis, eSports, boxing, mixed martial arts, and many more. His duties also routinely included overseeing event management, assisting with booking new events, establishing venue scaling and related box office operations, tracking ticket sales, managing overall event budgets, as well as aiding department staff with day-to-day activities including production responsibilities, event presentation, social media, group sales, and sponsorship fulfillment.
Prior to his role as a Manager of Marquee Events at The Garden, he worked as a Public Relations Coordinator for MSG Networks.
Hanousek is from Woodbridge, New Jersey and graduated from Seton Hall in May of 2012, where he earned his degree in communications.
“We are excited to have Matthew join the conference office,” said Ensor. “His versatility and range of experiences from across the sports spectrum, including time at the NCAA Division III level, showed us that he would make a great addition to the MAAC staff.”
“I am grateful to Mr. Ensor for this opportunity,” LaRochelle said. “I am looking forward to supporting the success of the conference and the membership.”
LaRochelle joins the conference from the United States Premier Hockey League (USPHL). He was hired in September of 2018 as a marketing & communications manager for their youth hockey division, but his role quickly expanded in the organization, leading projects in critical areas which supported the league's primary marketing initiatives.
Prior to the USPHL, LaRochelle served as the Athletics Social Media Strategist for Connecticut College, an NCAA Division III program in New London, CT. Hired in April of 2017, he created the athletic department’s social media strategy that showcases the College's 28 varsity teams, student-athletes, and alumni community. In addition, he aided the social media, content development, web services, and advancement teams in the College’s Office of Communications.
A native of Manchester, NH, LaRochelle graduated from Southern New Hampshire University in 2015 with a Bachelor of Science in sports management with a double major in marketing. He then earned his Master of Business Administration in 2016 from the University of Central Florida, where he was enrolled in the DeVos Sport Business Management Program.
